there's really no point in me writing about the hurricane, but i have to say this, cos it really disturbs me. in addition to the hurricane-related news, they said on our national news yesterday or the day before that bush had asked the world for help and assistance. fair enough, i like international collaboration (in sickness and in health, to be cheesy). BUT. and this makes me feel really bad, cos it doesn't at all represent my view of other humans; i feel a great urge to respond something like "well, you should have thought about that before you ran all of us over with that war of yours, shouldn't you?". but how does righteousness help the situation. i'd just hate to see him take credit he shouldn't have. i feel for those who deserve it.
then this.
sweden and other european countries have planes ready to take off, in a matter of hours, with help equipment, such as equipment to clean water, to set up temporary gsm-nets, aswell as cans to distribute water, etc, but they are not allowed to come. the us government has told them to wait cos they cannot, due to problems with logistics, receive the planes. the swedish plane should have lifted this morning (c.e.t.) but was cancelled because of this message. the chief of sweden's national rescue services agency says that he doesn't know of any international help being permitted to land in the us and that his interpretation of the situation is that the us government is afraid of the criticism that will come if they cannot handle the help if it arrives, if the planes end up being stuck at an airport several days and so on.
WHAT? excuse me, what?
i don't get it. i just don't.
there is a reason to why we make fun of ostriches for sticking their heads in the sand.

But still, you're not the only who has thoughts like that. I do too as well as many others and I'm hoping that something good will come from all of this.
